PLASMA CAN REPLACE EGG WHITE POWDER OR WHOLE EGG POWDER IN WET PET FOOD RECIPES
With the prices of egg protein ingredients rising, pet food manufacturers can gain benefits by substituting spray dried plasma (SDP) in formulas. Plasma is commonly used in both wet and dry foods, treats and supplements for its functional properties, proven health benefits and palatability.
Research aimed to compare the functionality of different egg products vs SDP at different inclusion levels in standard chunk recipes.
Base formula protein products were homogenized in a meal bowl-chopper for 5 minutes. SDP and the two egg products (egg powder and egg white) were included at 2 and 4 percent replacing poultry carcass.
